He didn’t get the job. We really, really needed him to. He has the experience, he was the top candidate when he interviewed, but now they say they are going with someone who has *more* experience.

I’m so stressed for our finances. Our house savings are gone. Retirement savings will be the next to go, and are already going down the drain. We were counting on him getting that job. He filed for unemployment but it’s gone into arbitration and he won’t see a single cent for at least 4-6weeks.

It’s not fair. None of this is fair. Why can’t I make enough to cover both of us? Didn’t it used to be like that? One breadwinner at a normal office job could sustain an entire family? Every penny I have goes to something: rent, utilities, groceries, bills. It doesn’t matter how careful I am with budgeting or planning, something always comes up: the car needed new brakes and tires, the cat needed a dental surgery, he needed to go to the ER for a heart attack two years ago. The ER saved his life but we are still paying off that bill.

We don’t own or need or want fancy expensive things. We don’t even have kids and we are still struggling. We just want to live. To survive. But even that feels utterly impossible and out of reach.

I hate this world. I hate this overwhelming and crushing feeling of inadequacy, like I don’t deserve to buy a house or retire in old age because I didn’t want to be a lawyer or a doctor or a CEO of Sales with 5 side hustles and a 80 hour work week.

We’re getting married in two and a half weeks, just a little bare-bones affair with family and homemade food. We have a honeymoon planned, just a couple of days in the next state over within driving distance but now we will probably have to cancel that and it breaks my heart.

It’s not fair. 😞
