Evening Prayer
Wednesday, Apr 24, 2019…Season of Easter
OPENING VERSE

Thine is the day, thine also the night; thou hast established the luminaries and the sun. Thou has fixed all the bounds of the earth; thou hast made summer and winter.—Psalm 74:16-17
CONFESSION OF SIN

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against your holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare those who confess their faults, restore those who are repentant, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy Name. Amen.

May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, through Jesus Christ our Lord, and strengthen us to live in the power of the Holy Spirit, all our days. Amen.
THE INVITATORY

O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Alleluia!
THE PSALM

AN EVENING PRAYER
O gracious Light, pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven, O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed! Now as we come to the setting of the sun, and our eyes behold the vesper light, we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices, O Son of God, O Giver of life, and to be glorified through all the worlds.

THE NICENE CREED
Recite the Nicene Creed, acknowledging the universal truths of the Christian faith.
We believe in one God,
  the Father, the Almighty,
  maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
  the only Son of God,
  eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, light from light,
  true God from true God,
  begotten, not made,
  of one Being with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
  he came down from heaven,
was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary
  and became truly human.
  For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
  in accordance with the Scriptures;
  he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
Pray The Lord's Prayer, taking your time and meditating on each line as you pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven,…hallowed be thy name,…thy kingdom come,…thy will be done,…on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,…as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,…but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,…and the power,…and the glory, forever.
Amen.
THE INTERCESSION
Use the following intercessary prayer to help you focus on specific concerns.
Make your ways known upon earth, Lord God, your saving power among all peoples. Renew your Church in holiness and help us to serve you with joy. Guide the leaders of all nations that justice may prevail throughout the world. Let not the needy be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor be taken away. Make us instruments of your peace and let your glory be over all the earth. Amen.
Take some time to pray for yourself and others. Let the Spirit lead you and guide you as you pray.
THE COLLECT
Pray the following collect.
A Collect for the Presence of Christ
Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know you as you are revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of your love. Amen.
BENEDICTION
Conclude with the following benediction.
May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
—Romans 15:13
