I miss my owl. The barred one. He was much better company to my ears than listening to this animal die in the field across the street. Something is killing it. The screams and howls break the beautiful, rare, breezeless, silent night. Turned my poem from a grateful ode to darkness to my ashes begging to be scattered by wind.
