I met someone today. Well, "met" is up for debate. I was in Paper Vision and we made eye contact and she smiled as we squeezed past each other in the card aisle. She was pretty, yes, but that's not the point. She had a certain feeling about her, like I just felt this instant *click*. I don't want to think of it as a sign of her being my soul mate or anything. No, I feel like we're connected in some other way. This connection was different than some cheesy rom-com cliche. Some soul-friend-mate way. Perhaps we met in another life. Or perhaps we will meet again. I'm not entirely sure. I thought she had left the store, but I found her looking through the posters in the back with whom I assume was her mother and sister. Her name was Riley. Or just simply Ry. That's what her mom called her. I know that much. But I went next to her and I started looking through the posters as well, and we were flipping through them in opposite directions toward each other, and our paths crossed. I was nervous so I pretended to be disinterested and started to walk away. Right when she did too. I wanted to be smooth. I wanted to be smart and play it cool and make some sort of effort, some sort of action that would give me more of her for me to remember, some tie that could come into play in the future. A phone number, an Instagram, a full name. But I'm not good with new people. The fact that my parents were in the same room made it even harder. Today in Paper Vision, I left someone behind. I don't know who she is or what meaning she could have in my life, but somewhere out there, there is a Riley who I couldn't work up the courage to talk to. And I want a second chance to meet her.
